    Dr. Sherwood joined the faculty in 1979. He is an Associate Professor at the Silberman School of Social Work at Hunter College and has worked with military personnel, veterans, and student veterans for over 30 years. He has published in the areas of veterans and PTSD and is a clinical consultant at the Hudson Valley Veterans Health Care System-Montrose Campus since 1986 where he treats veterans with PTSD.

    He is the initial organizer for the annual conference on The Hidden Client: Veterans and their Loved Ones, which began in 1983, and was held each year until 2010. He was a social work officer at Fort Polk, LA from 1971 to 1973 and was in the reserves from 1973 to 1978. Since 2007 he has been Director for the Project for Return and Opportunity in Veterans Education (PROVE), a program serving student veterans within CUNY. PROVE has received external funding of $1.3 million from the Robin Hood Foundation, the Bob Woodruff Foundation, and the American Council on Education. PROVE’s social work interns and field instructors provided services to over 1300 student veterans at seven CUNY colleges this year.

    Leora is the Project Co-Director for Project for Return and Opportunity in Veterans Education (PROVE) at Silberman School of Social Work (SSSW). She started with PROVE in 2008. Ms.Shudofsky received her master’s degree in Social Work from Hunter College School of Social Work (now Silberman) in 1990 majoring in Group Work. She has been an adjunct at Columbia University School of Social Work and SSSW teaching Group Work since 1999. She developed the curriculum for and has been teaching “Social Work with Veterans and Service members” at Silberman SSW since 2013. Working with veterans has become a true passion for her and she plans to continue working with PROVE and also training up the new generation of social workers to learn more about working with veterans and service members.

    Katharine Bloeser, PhD., MSW

    Katharine Bloeser has served veterans for the majority of her career. Before coming to the Silberman School of Social Work at Hunter College, she served as a researcher and clinical social worker at the Washington, DC Veterans Affairs Medical Center’s War Related Illness and Injury Study Center and in the Trauma Services clinic treating posttraumatic stress disorder. Dr. Bloeser’s work there focused on veterans who are members of underserved and underrepresented populations including veterans who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, and/or transgender. While at the VA, she received the prestigious Olin E. Teague award for service to disabled veterans and was also named social worker of the year by her peers. Dr. Bloeser is committed to helping veterans lead their communities in social change. She is excited for the opportunity to help PROVE in these efforts.

    Kylene Ann Kasch is an artist, veteran, and Associate Project Director with the Project for Return and Opportunity in Veteran Education.  A United States Marine and Logistics Vehicle Systems Operator, Kylene served on active duty from 2002 until 2006 when she deployed to the Iraq Al Anbar province in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.  Kylene is a founding member of the Veteran Coalition of Arts and remains active through an advisory role mentoring veterans attending her Alma Matter.  She received a Bachelor’s of Fine Arts in 2014 and her Masters’ of Professional Studies in Art Therapy from the School of Visual Arts in 2016.

    Ngone Lo is the current Research Assistant and a graduate from Marist College. She holds a Bachelors of Science in Applied Mathmatics. Previous internships include the National Institutes of Health, United Bank for Africa, and Imagine Learning Inc. Additionally, Ngone volunteered as a member of the Social Work Association.

    Kerry Green is a graduate student at the Silberman School of Social work and a research aide for PROVE. Expected to complete her MSW by the summer of 2017, she is passionate about the field of social services and working with adolescents in underserved communities.

    Gregory Klevans is a data entry work-study for PROVE and a current student at Hunter College. Expected to graduate with a Masters' of Science in Economics May 2017, Gregory was recently accepted into the PhD program at Santa Cruz College in California for the Fall 2017 semester.

    Leason Beckford is a graphic designer and workstudy at PROVE. He is a Marine Corps veteran and pursuing his MFA (concentration in Graphic Design) at the School of Visual Arts. His role at PROVE includes re-branding (for our 10th year anniversay), developing design content for our social media platforms, promotional/out reach materials, and other digitial material as needed.
